Hearth Restaurant opens in Washougal

August 13, 2010

Hearth Washougal

We had the opportunity to dine at Hearth Restaurant, Washougal’s newest restaurant which opens August 18th.

Probably the smartest thing a restaurant can do is have a “soft opening” the week before so they can work the kinks out.

Something strange I’ve never experienced before was that you can see their menu on their website, so I pretty much had an idea of what I was going to try….when we arrived, they had a different menu. A little disappointing.

If you go, expect to stay awhile. Our dinner lasted two hours. Thirty minutes of that was just waiting for the dessert. Our waiter was polite, but lacked the communication with us to let us know why each course was taking so long to prepare. Did the owners stop by and visit? Nope. You’d think so during opening week.

Now that the criticism is out of the way… the food was GREAT.  I had the Lamb curry pizza, a thin crusted pizza with curried lamb, chile sauce, mozzarella and romano cheeses. They have a unique selection of pizzas – all think crusted and wood fired baked. We also had the Mussels in a white wine sauce as an appetizer.

My son had the flank steak with potatoes and veggies and my wife had the very thick sliced pork.

For dessert, we tried the Fruit crisp and cake.

French pressed coffee to end the meal.

Each dish was great and the wood fired oven they cook with made everything taste especially delicious.

Prices are moderate.

I’d recommend Hearths. Give them a few weeks to work out their customer service kinks and it’ll be an enjoyable evening place.

Ann Rivers – Republican or Democrat? – The Label Doesn’t Matter to Her – She Just Wants Her “Next Step”

July 22, 2010
By Gary Wiram, Red County Contributor

This past Friday, at a “Meet The Candidates” event, I had an encounter with Ann Rivers, who is running for State Representative in Washington’s 18th Legislative District. Although I could share a lot of interesting details about this event and that encounter, what really matters is that this experience served as a reminder to me that there are a significant number of serious questions that I’ve heard about Ann Rivers, which remain unanswered. Consi...

“They really do think they know better how to spend your money, how to...

Camas Schools violate Students' Rights

May 8, 2010
Our daughter is a Camas School District 5th grader.  A couple weeks ago she was thrilled to have newly-done bangs of different colors.  Then the Principal confronted her, not discreetly and privately, but in front of her peers in the lunchroom, where he made her take off her knit cap, shamed her for her hair, and made her feel two inches tall.

A District-wide elementary school rule claims that “Hair gels or dyes, unnatural in color, are not acceptable.  These colors may include blue, pink, g...
