VANCOUVER- 3rd District Republican Candidate for U.S. Congress, Jon Russell, applauds Brian Baird's decision to not seek another term to Congress.

"When Baird was first elected to Congress the Federal Government had budget surpluses. After Baird's12 years in Congress, we are now running over 1.7 trillion dollar deficits, thanks in-part to Brian Baird's voting. His resignation underscores the political reality that there is a political sea change coming and he was about to get swept under." Russell said.

According to the Politico: "Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA) announced his retirement tonight, becoming the third Dem in a vulnerable seat to announce his departure in the last few weeks." "The time has now come to pursue other options, other ways of serving. Hence, I am announcing today that I do not intend to seek reelection to Congress in 2010," Baird wrote in a statement. "This is not an easy decision to be sure, but I believe it is the right decision at the right time."

Jon Russell announced his run for the U.S. Congressional seat in Washington's 3rd District in June of 2009. He, also, serves on the Washougal City Council and is the owner of an Urgent and Family Care Clinic. The Congressman for SW Washington Brian Baird announced today he will not seek a seventh term in Congress next year.

"The time has now come to pursue other options, other ways of serving," Baird said. "This is not an easy decision to be sure, but I believe it is the right decision at the right time."

Baird will be remembered for:

The wasted money he initiated such as $40million + of waste in vain attempts to save the salmon by building fish tubes that don’t work at Bonneville Dam.

A congressman afraid to face constituents in town hall meetings

A congressman that voteed for partial birth abortions and believes your tax dollars should pay for it.

Lead a House committee’s fact-finding trip at taxpayer expense to the Galapagos Islands, off Ecuador.

Supporting the stimulus package, increasing the national debt.

We wish Baird well in his retirement and thank him for making this decision.
