Camas Increases Utility Rate 40.8% in 9 months. January 1st is your next hit.

Public Meeting December 7th

When I received my last utility bill from the city of camas, my rates had increase so much; I crawled under the house to see if I had water gushing from my pipes.

No such luck. That, I could have fixed. But the continued plundering of my wallet by the City of Camas is something I can't easily fix.

Camas residents have another chance to express their concerns (most likely on deaf ears) of continued utility rate increases.

Unhampered by voter approval, and an apathetic election where 3 council positions went unchallenged,  the Camas City Council will continue to generate money for several capital improvement projects – recession or not.

After obligatory public meetings to justify a 24.8% rate increase in April of 2009, the Council will again raise rates beginning January 1st an additional 16%.

That is a 40.8% rate increase in 9 months. If the recession hasn't hurt you enough, the City of Camas will bleed you even more.

One of the councils ideas being "tossed around", which I like on the surface is lowering the fixed rate of sewer and adding a variable rate, meaning, the more you flush, the more you pay.

Residents on fixed incomes could receive a 50% discount....Get this...the difference would be made up by increasing other customers rates! Another subsidy on the backs of the rest of the rate payers.

According to the Clark County Treasurers office Camas currently has the highest tax rates in Clark County. Oh, that’s right, this isn’t a “tax” it’s a “rate” increase.

How much longer can YOU afford to live in the highest taxed city in Clark County?

If you would like to express your opinion to the City of Camas, Contact the council members individually.

I would encourage you to attend the Dec. 7th Council meeting at 7:00Pm at the Camas City Council....but they will have made their decision in workshop before the public comment anyway.

The best way to express your opinion...Email, Call, write to your council members.
