As Port Commissioner Bill Ward said tonight at the closing
of the Port Meeting

Port Commissioners voted 2-1 Monday to move forward with plans to improve the safety of Grove Field.
"Monday's approval will allow the port to seek $10 million in Federal Aviation Administration funding to improve safety standards at the airstrip, owned by the Port of Camas-Washougal. Pilots say the upgrades are necessary to the airport, west of Northeast 267th Avenue between Ninth Street and Hathaway Road. A minority few of Its neighbors object to plans that appear to enlarge the airport.

In August, Port Commissioner candidates Lampton and Smith were accused of “flip flopping” as they changed their minds about supporting Grove Field and instead, publicly announced opposition to the Grove Airport improvements and the proposed FAA funding project. Grove Field has been designated as a NPIAS (National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems) Airport. Because of this designation Grove Field was eligible for FAA monies to make an AIP (Airport Improvement Program) Plan. The Plan was to decide what the owner (Port C/W) was going to do with the airport over the next 20 years.
