Attention Salsa Enthusiasts. Celebrate the final week of your local market! The
Washougal Farmers’ Market is hosting a “Hot & Spicy Salsa Contest” on Saturday,
September 25th at 10:00 am in downtown Washougal, sponsored by Shangri-La Farm.
Bring your favorite home made salsa to the market where it will be judged for several
attributes including flavor, heat, texture and presentation. Professional chefs are also
welcome to enter the contest. Judges include several members of the Washougal City
Council including Paul Greenlee, Rod Morris, Jennifer McDaniel and Michael Delevar.
The winning chef will have bragging rights for the next year along with several special
gifts from Washougal Market vendors.

The public is invited to visit more than 20 booths, some offering handcrafted jewelry,
hats, scarves, aprons, metal garden art, paintings, art prints and greeting cards, hand-
painted tiles, stepping stones, garden benches and wood planter boxes.
New and
returning farmers to the market include Cheng Summer Bloom, Down to Earth Gardens,
Enchanted Gardens, Shangri-La Farm and The Farm Stand. This year’s market is filled
with a variety of local vendors selling fresh fruits, vegetables, free range eggs, vegetable
starts, sweet berry jams, dill pickles, cut flowers, annuals, perennials and fresh baked
artisan breads and pastries.

Admission to the market is free to the public. Each Saturday, local musicians play in
Reflection Plaza from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This week, Chris Pruitt will perform
acoustic guitar and vocals! A live salsa making demonstration will also take place this
Saturday, September 25th beginning at 11:00 a.m. presented by Shangri-La Farm.

Free parking is available to all market visitors in the Pendleton Woolen Mills parking
lot and on downtown Washougal City streets. The market is organized by Two Rivers
Community Group, a 501c3 non profit association, committed to supporting the
community through activities that promote sustainability and support local businesses.
