WASHOUGAL, Wash. -Mayor Stacee Sellers announced today that she was resigning after losing her re-election campaign, even though she was supposed to serve out her term until January 1.

Recently, council members voted unanimously to publicy censure Sellers and last week Mayor Stacee Sellers had not returned any of councils phone calls or emails there was a lot of talk about the council would be forced to begin steps to remove her from office.

Yet, after returning on Monday and announcing her resignation just before 1 p.m., Sellers released a statement that said she had merely gone on a short vacation.

"I was scheduled to return from a short vacation to lead the transition of administrations. Instead I receive emails and texts asking if I am still alive," she said. "Since announcing my run for re-election, I have received anonymous letters, threats of all sorts, people going through my garbage, people caught by my neighbors looking in my windows, etc. I thought this type of behavior would end after the elections, it has not. In fact, it has escalated."
