Here is the rest of the story...Mayor Sellers'  Leap of Faith Speech given at the Mayors Prayer Breakfast - what you didn't see on YouTube:

"You want a no risk guarantee before you take a chance.

You want to know the song will end before you start to dance.

Well I can’t foresee the future but my heart clearly sees

Your hand in mine for a long, long time if you can just believe.

TAKE A LEAP OF FAITH.

Cast away your doubt.

If you trust in me like I trust in you,

there’s no rain or fire that we can’t go through.

The first steps always the hardest one to take.

IT’S A LEAP OF FAITH.

GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME CLARK COUNTY.

Thank you to Diane and Stewart Kent.  When I called them on Tuesday evening to ask them if they would prefer another Mayor to give the welcome today, their guidance, prayers and words touched my heart and they are the reason I stand before you.

And also remembering,

Success is not final;

Failure is not fatal;

It is the courage to continue that counts.

Thank you to my son, Jerrad always the best date to any event.  I love you.

You are going to have the opportunity to hear some very powerful vocalists this morning.

Fortunate for all of us I am not one of them.

But I find it fitting to start by telling you, according to Bruce Springsteen, another powerful vocalists, who I’m certain, wanted to be with us today:

It takes a leap of faith to get things going,

It takes a leap of faith you gotta show some guts

It takes a leap of faith to get things going

In your heart you must trust.

Taking that leap can, depending on your personal philosophies, carry positive or negative connotations, I feel it is a desirable quality to be able to believe in something or someone without evidence while others feel it is irrational.

It’s a hotly contested concept, but nothing like the political races around the county right now.

I have come to realize we feel immediately better when we stop trying to control outcomes and accept what life brings.  We also have to look at what motivates us.  Do we base these motives on faith or what we think society wants?  Either way I believe it is important to let our faith direct us, accept what life does bring with an open mind.  If something does not go as planned, don’t play the role of a victim, relax and search for the lesson.

I always know how my life should unfold.  In fact I grew irritated at times when people or things don’t play my version of Life.  I realized 10 years ago, after my mom also best friend, died of brain cancer at the age of 44, that I have to have the faith and patience to let things unfold and also accept what life present and perhaps the outcome will be more beneficial to me later.

After my mother’s death I had no choice but to become a stronger more independent, responsible woman.  I had two teenage sisters to help raise plus Jerrad.

Michelle Branch sings:

One less call to answer, feeling of despair, don’t think I can get through it, just one last prayer.

And it’s a leap of faith, when you believe there’s someone out there, it’s a leap of faith when you believe that someone cares…

And when I tend to take that LEAP OF FAITH, I am happier, less stressed and fear disappear.

GOD BLESS, THANK YOU AND WELCOME TO CLARK COUNTY’S 8TH ANNUAL MAYOR’S PRAYER BREAKFAST.

ENJOY!"
