The Port of Camas-Washougal released the results of a recent public survey that asked local citizens for input on communication preferences and opinions on port properties such as the popular marina, Grove Field airport and the industrial park.

“We’re pleased that so many people took the time to respond to our survey and provided valuable input and opinions about the use of port assets,” said Executive Director Dave Ripp. The comments provided will add to the input we already receive from citizens at commission meetings, public events and other venues and will certainly be made available to port commissioners as another important source of information to help guide them in updating

our comprehensive plan.”

According to port officials, 240 citizens completed surveys during a four-month period from approximately August through November. The surveys were distributed to businesses and residents in Camas and Washougal via direct mail, though port announcements and newsletters and were also made available electronically via the port Web site.

Highlights from the survey results include the following:

• 72 percent of survey respondents feel the port should focus on retaining current businesses in the industrial park (investing in building improvements, adding rail)

• 70 percent of survey respondents indicate a preference for internship opportunities as a method of partnering with local schools  [Maybe like starting an aviation school opportunity within the High schools]

• 68 percent of survey respondents indicate a preference for making the marina more accessible to the public through additional public events, a second fishing dock

• 89 percent of survey respondents indicate a preference for the port to seek grant-funding to ensure Grove Field airport meets minimum safety and navigational standards

• 69 percent of survey respondents indicate a preference for building new park facilities

Acomplete copy of survey results is available to review at port offices at 24 South ‘A’ Street, Washougal, Wash, 98671. In addition, an electronic copy of survey results is now available online via the port Web site at www.portcw.com.
